The
ACFI 12th annual fraud conference is coming to downtown Toronto May 3 - 4, 2010
with an optional 1/2 day workshop on May 2, 2010 at the Courtyard by Marriott, the same venue as last year.
Planning is moving along well and session choices will be available soon.
Right
now take advantage of discounts for early registration. SAVE OVER 10%! You also receive
a complimentary copy of either ACFI Mock Trial: "The Expert" or "The Evidence" with each conference registration.
The
ACFI fraud conference features 3 tracks, allowing delegates a breadth of
subjects and flexibility of choice.
The
conference showcases several sessions devoted to:
- ways
and means of lowering the cost of investigations,
- presenting innovative
ways of improving recoveries,
- innovative and
comprehensive methods of preventing fraud, and
- keeping you up to date
with changes in the law and the state of fraud in Canada.
This year's theme "Mitigating
the Damages" was chosen by the
ACFI fraud conference committee with a view to illustrating ways and means of
reducing the cost of fraud. As we are all aware, the impact of fraud on
organizations can not only cripple, but can also bankrupt an organization, from
a number of perspectives.
One of the goals of the ACFI is to continue producing the
same high quality conference that we have always provided, while, in
recognition of the downturn in the economy, maintaining the cost to conference
delegates. To this end we gratefully acknowledge our sponsors, without whose assistance
these goals would not have been accomplished.
Fees
have remained the same as in previous years and are $895 and $335 (plus GST) for
members for the Conference and Workshop,
respectively, and $995 and $395 (plus GST) for non-members. Prices are, of course, in Canadian dollars and discounts
are available if you act now. If you have any questions, comments or concerns
please call Al Langley at 416-226-3018 or toll free 1-877-552-5585.
Your
registration to this year's conference includes:
- Attendance at the 12th
annual ACFI fraud conference
- 3 Tracks and a choice of
21 concurrent sessions
- A Mock Trial
- Unlimited networking
opportunities
- Binder containing
conference presentations, and
- A welcome reception
Conference delegates will
be pleased to hear that Paul McLaughlin is back, by popular demand. Paul's
skills in the area of interviewing, as well as his presentation style, have
been a favourite for years.
OPTIONAL 1/2 DAY
WORKSHOP
Designed
to introduce us to software that can aid us with various tasks associated with
fraud investigations, this informative workshop has been developed by the ACFI
and Kevin Lo of Froese Forensic Partners Ltd.
Consider that in today's world of complex investigations there are many
technologies, primarily software solutions, available to investigators which
can not only enhance an investigators ability to prevent, detect and
investigate fraud but can also improve efficiencies, organization and the presentation
of a case.
But just what is this software and how can it help us? Join us and find out.
For a more complete programme check out our web site.
VENUE:
Delegates from out of town will be pleased
that the conference committee has managed to obtain the hotel room rate of
$149.00 per night, the same as last year. If you are planning to attend our
12th Annual Fraud Conference and wish to take advantage of this reasonable
rate, please contact the hotel at: 416-924-0611 or toll free 1-800-847-5075.

CPD Requirements
The minimum CPD
hours required to stay current as a Certified Forensic Investigator is 20 hours
per annum of which 10 are required to be fraud related and relevant to the area
of a member's practice or employment.
For example, a law course taught in Europe would not be relevant for Canadians
who are attempting to keep current with the laws of the Canada.
Therefore under
the rules of the ACFI, credits deemed not to be germane to Canada will not be
allowable towards the 10 fraud related credits required.
Most Certified
Forensic Investigators are aware of the aforementioned however the reason for
bringing this to your attention again was due to a statement made by Mr.
Richard Tchir a prosecutor with Alberta Justice and one of our speakers at last
years ACFI Fraud Conference, who made the following statement:
"I found the conference a very worthwhile and interesting
one and that especially refreshing was the Canadian content at the sessions I
attended. I have found that at many other conferences and seminars that I have
attended all too often the content is full of American information that
sometimes is difficult to translate into the Canadian experience, and such was
not the case at the ACFI."
