The ACFI 10th Annual Conference in May 2008 brought to life the “Many Faces of Fraud” for its delegates. The Conference was fortunate to have a broad range of professional sectors represented. Conference delegates came from accounting firms, law firms financial institutions such as insurance companies, mortgage companies, banks, investigative firms and the public sector which included all three levels of government: municipal, provincial and federal. This group of professionals came together to share their knowledge for the purpose of seeking better ways to detect and prevent fraud.
The speakers at this conference, like the delegates, came from this wide variety of different backgrounds. The keynote presentation by the Honourable Patrick J. LeSage emphasized the importance of objectivity, disclosure, focus and an opinion based on facts in presenting a case. John Scutt, the assistant Crown Attorney entertained and educated delegates on the many different faces of fraud he has encountered in his career. The workshop and presentations successfully disseminated information concerning types of fraud, interviewing techniques, investigative practices, and analysis of the causes of frauds, and measures to implement to prevent future fraud.
The ACFI would like to thank all of the speakers and the conference committee who made this year’s conference possible. The 2008 conference committee included: Peter Alexander, Ashley Barr, Morgen Cookson, Charlotte Hoggard, Peggy Mackenzie, Nancy Mannetje, Judith Mitchell, Gloria Morrison, LeJune Pier, Elaine G. Vegotsky, Nina V. Watson, Karen Vanderzweerde, Matt Edirisinghe and Fallon Reid.
